Girl Power 2 Cure
#RiseAboveRett in 2020!
Happy September!
Dear GP2C Community and Supporters,
As summer draws to a close, we hope that your families have survived the “Summer of Covid-19”. Hopefully this time together, albeit forced on us, has been beneficial. As we enter into our year-end calendar, many things have changed for GP2C and Rett University. Traditional events have been substantially impacted by social distancing and the inability to gather. We are making adjustments, just like you.
Accordingly, we are planning several “virtual” events to close out our year (see below). If you are able, please consider supporting one of these activities. We are pressing forward, because this work is too important. Rett Syndrome will still be here when the virus is gone, and we cannot lose this precious time in seeking cures and treatments. Too many people we love are depending on us.
Girl Power 2 Cure is fighting every day to:
- Support and encourage Rett Syndrome families
- Educate, raise awareness, and promote literacy for individuals with Rett Syndrome and other complex-needs conditions
- Raise research dollars to support cure-focused and symptom-relieving treatments for our loved ones
There are many ways you can help… sponsor an event, (maybe a “virtual” run!), host a giveback with a local business, promote a Facebook fundraiser, or simply commit to recurring donations. We have tons of ideas and can help start to finish! Contact Amei (amei@gp2c.org) and let’s get to work conquering Rett Syndrome!

Family Support
Raising a Boy with Rett Syndrome
Long before the “days of COVID” we knew about living in a solitary space. By “we” I mean my son, and, by association, our family because he is a boy living with Rett Syndrome. Initially, the feeling of not being able to draw from the well of collective parenting wisdom, which I had so easily accessed while raising my older children, was pretty upsetting. It was kind of like taking a detour to Antarctica…. (Follow the link to read more)
Rett University
Empowering parents, educators, and therapists with the knowledge and strategies to help students with complex needs reach their highest potential.

“I discovered that a fresh start is a process. A fresh start is a journey – a journey that requires a plan.” – Vivian Jokotade
A new beginning is upon us, unlike any we’ve seen before! While the last year ended abruptly, now it is time to start the 2020-2021 school year, albeit with many changes. We are here to support in any way we can for our students with Rett Syndrome and other complex needs. Check out the 2020-2021 School Year blog below for some tips and ideas from Rett U coach Kourtney Barnum for teachers. It truly takes a village to educate our loved ones with complex needs, especially in this time of upheaval. Let’s work together as a team to create the best education for the ones we love.
We continue our remote consults for families all over the world, as well as for school districts that need support. If you are in need of assistance please email Kourtney@gp2c.org for information on training with Susan or Kourtney.
We are also planning some new things with Rett U, so be on the lookout. As always, if you have suggestions for lessons, book clubs or how-to’s, let us know. We are here to support you!
Monthly Blog
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year!
The beginning of the year was always my favorite time as a teacher. Getting to see my kids who were returning, meeting our new families, seeing how the students had changed over the summer, starting fresh with a whole year of learning ahead of us after a break for the summer. Unfortunately, this school year has started with more stress and confusion for most of the country. …” (Follow the link to read more!)
