TRACK 4 - "Can You Dance Like That?" by Rachel Sumner
This is a great action song with a fun
chorus that gets everyone involved!

This is also a good song for body part
awareness: hands, hips, arms, feet.

Speech/communication:
Using pictures of family members, have
your child decide who will do the
dancing....or lead with a special move!

Record the names of each person into
a Step Switch. Have your child activate
the switch to make family members
start a different dance move for
everyone to imitate. You can add in
the voice prompt "Can you dance like
that?" after each name to prompt the
others to imitate the moves.

In addition, gather symbols for different
body parts and actions. If your child is
ready, you can incorporate
3-command communication. Example:
"John" "wiggle" "knees".

Occupational therapy:
Great motivation for some hand use:
"clap hands," "wave arms" and "hands
on hips."

Sensory:
Follow the commands of the chorus! If
your child is not weight bearing well on
her legs, sit behind her while she is in
a seated position, or lie her down in
front of you.  Move her legs and arms
for her to give her a good stretch as
well as body awareness.

Physical therapy:
This is a great motivator for
encouraging movement in a walker.
Gather several people to do the dance
in a circle. Follow the actions of moving
into the center and back to your places.
