TRACK 1 - "I Am I" by Eric Hansen

This song, "I Am I," is a great song to
compliment the subject of
FEELINGS.

Place your child's photo in the box.
Use this card for your child to signal
this song or subject.

Speech/communication:
Using Boardmaker, PECS, similar icon
images, or photos of familiar faces,
create cards for different feelings.

In addition to having your child identify
the correct images, try these ideas:

Record the names of each feeling into
a Step Switch. Have your child activate
the switch to make family members
mimic each feeling (very dramatic and
silly of course!)

Listen to the song and then tell your
child about your feelings. See if they
can tell you about theirs using the
cards. You can extend this to reading
a story or naming the feelings of family
members as they really happen.

Occupational therapy:
Using cut out pieces of felt, create
crazy face parts, then have the child
try to make the face on the felt board
(or large pillow with flannel cover). Hold
up options for her to choose.

Have a sibling make the faces,
too...then have her pick the card that
names what face her sibling made.

Sensory:
This is a great swinging song! There is
also the "up and down" and "swinging
around" part of the chorus that can be
done holding your child or while in her
wheelchair.

Physical therapy:
Gather objects that make your child
happy! Let her reach for which ones
she wants while in different positions
(kneeling, sitting, all-fours, etc.) and
then let her relax and play with the
object in between successful attempts.
