Rett Mom, Lori Morris, from Michigan has something really cool to share!  She designed a unique chair for a local benefit.

Lori tells us, “I work at the Michigan Design Center and when the flyer went around and I was told the concept, my creative thoughts immediately went to Opportunity to Express A Bit O' Rett to the Public!

"Without taking away from the charity the contest is benefiting, I thought of the flower logo that Girl Power 2 Cure has adopted and a flower pot concept was brewing through my brain.”

The requirement for this year’s project? All chairs are required to have a face of some sort and since chairs are transformed into works of art, they do not necessarily have to maintain a seating function.

“I wanted the face to be a bit off beat, so I went to Salvation Army in search of my chair, a plastic doll face, a tambourine, fabric for leaves, petal and skirt. I added a green towel for the grass, because when I saw it, I knew it would be a wonderful texture to mix into the idea. The boa was a last minute grab as I was leaving the store. Once I had the basic creation started, a poem came to mind and so the canvas was added.” says Lori.

The poem on the chair says:

“A chair in the garden

Set in the shade

Patiently waiting

for a miracle each day.”

When we asked her more about the poem she said, “Because this chair is a 3D object, I created a 3D statement. The back of the chair states, "Garden of Hope" and the back of the canvas has the Girl  Power 2 Cure, "Believe" logo. No matter the cause, the prayers are always the same; 'believe', 'grow hope' and spread the word anyway you can!”

The chairs will be placed on display at the Novi Expo Center during the Home Improvement Show and will be professionally photographed (there are talks that a book will be made of the photographs as well.) Ultimately, the chairs will be put up for auction at Winners Reception in March (location and evening time to be determined). Voting on-line on Facebook will determine the winners.

We will post the link when it becomes available so that you can vote for Lori’s beautiful chair!
