Melissa was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome just before Christmas of 2007. She turned three in June of this year. Her smile lights up any room, and everybody that meets her falls in love with her.
The past year has been very difficult for her. Seizures, acid reflux, and many doctors visits later we have finally gotten a pretty good handle on Melissa's health. We are so lucky to have therapists come to our home 4 times a week. She is responding well to the therapy although even the therapists are new to Rett Syndrome.
Melissa enjoys play time the most. Any activity that involves lots of attention and laughing is her favorite. She does not enjoy standing at this time, but we are still working on it. In May, we held a Walk for Melissa with proceeds going directly to Katie's Clinic in Oakland for Rett Syndrome Research. Living in a very small town, we were overwhelmed by the response. We were able to raise almost $26,000.
We are so lucky to have such a special little girl in our lives. I call her my angel and we love her with all of our heart.
