Edda Martin was born in Rhinebeck, NY on March 24,
2004. She lived in New York until she turned one
and then moved with her family to Singapore. It was
overseas, in Singapore, where she was diagnosed
with Rett Syndrome. In Singapore, Edda loved
playing in the warm outdoor pools and relished eating
tofu and chicken macaroni soup from the hawker
stands. It was also in Singapore where she started
going to a special needs school and therapy; it is
where she learned to walk and also where she lost
her hand skills.
After 2 years in Singapore, Edda moved again with
her family, this time to Maryland. She spends her
time listening to music, playing with her older brother
and watching the "classic" Blue's Clues (the ones with
Steve), although her tastes now are shifting towards
feature length animated films. This fall, Edda is
excited to start ballet lessons.
Edda and her family are excited to work with Girl
Power 2 Cure to find a cure for Rett Syndrome.

Hope begins in the dark, the stubborn
hope that if you just show up and try to do
the right thing, the dawn will come. You
wait and watch and work. You don't give
up.
