Why not get together with your friends, troop or girls' club and learn about something new?
Rett Syndrome only affects girls. They need you. The more people who know about Rett Syndrome, the more people will be able to help these girls by:
learning to be their friend
accepting them into the school system
making sure they can participate in community activities
pushing the interest to find a cure
WHAT CAN I DO? Plan a "Rett Syndrome Awareness Activity."
Ingredients:
a group of girls
a fun craft idea
a fun activity
time to talk about Rett Syndrome
Group of girls: You're in charge of this. You can have your friends over to your house, or plan something for a group meeting.
A fun craft idea: Make something with the Girl Power 2 Cure colors PINK, PURPLE and ORANGE! This could be a beaded bracelet, a painted hat, a pot holder, ribbons tied on flip flops, a painted t-shirt, a hair bow.....it's up to your imagination!
Take pictures of your group making the craft, along with the finished product and we will post them in our CRAFT GALLERY!
A fun activity: Try these ideas! "Dress-up" party! Have fun getting dressed up and then go out somewhere and show off your get ups....be fancy,be silly, pick a theme.....it's your choice! Plan a trip to a local museum or park!
Tea Party! Tea Party time! Bring a favorite stuffed animal or doll and have a tea party complete with homemade goodies that each girl brings to the party.
Dance Party! Order enough Girl Power CDs (our fund raising CD) to send home with each girl. Have the girls bring their favorite music to the party and learn some new dance moves! There might even be a dance teacher in your area who would donate her time to teach the girls a dance they will love to do together over and over and remember forever!
Time to talk about Rett Syndrome: If you email us two weeks ahead of time with your contact info, we can mail you special cards about Rett Syndrome to pass out to your group. (see card)
Once you go over the information on the card, you can branch out and talk related things like:
other kinds of disabilities
related professions (researcher, neurologist, therapist, doctor, nurse, special education teacher)
the girls experiences with people with special needs
how they feel after learning about Rett Syndrome
To make this more personal you can email us for the name of a girl in your area to "adopt." You can write her letters or email her. Send her one of the items you created in her honor. You could even invite her to your next meeting (click here for guidance with this).
REGISTER YOUR GROUP! Why register? With any of the options, your group will get its own web page to show off pictures of your event. If you make a craft, your item and photos can be posted in our Craft Gallery! You will also receive information cards about Rett Syndrome to share with the girls. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER!
