Alyssa was born September 12, 2002, in New Mexico. She is an amazing, happy and
loving six year old little girl. She captures the hearts of everyone that she meets. Her
smile can make your day and her laugh is contagious. She is a big sister to Kara (2
1/2) and Emma (11 months). She was a very happy baby, loved her swing, playing
and cuddling.
Alyssa was diagnosed two weeks before she turned three years old. We never
thought the test would come back with a positive result. It did and felt like a freight
train hitting with full force head on and not stopping for a very along time. So we
started on the journey in the club you never wanted to be a part of. Speech, walking
and purposeful hand use were taken from her and she has seizures that are now
controlled with medication.
Alyssa is now in kindergarten with a one on one aide whom she loves dearly. She
also really enjoys being around her classmates and her teacher. She works hard
everyday with school and therapy, speech, occupational, physical and music, her
favorite. She has had a few words slip out and they are treasures that I hold close to
my heart. She enjoys spending time with her sisters, laughing and watching Disney
movies (Nemo, Lion King, Cars and The Incredible's)
Alyssa amazes me everyday, despite all that has been taken from her, she is happy
and content with life. She lights up a room with her smile and I enjoy her hugs. She
uses eye gaze to communicate with pecs pictures and we are working on getting a
communication device for her. We are also working on treadmill training to try to get
her walking. She is up to six minutes and we are very excited about that.
PLEASE find it in your heart to help us come one moment closer to the cure that is
waiting to be found and unlock our daughters from rett syndrome. We need your
help and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
